Hike to Laguna Huantay

The Humantay lagoon is one of the most visited natural attractions in Cusco. Which makes it a preferred travel experience for many travelers from all over the world. The turquoise color of its waters accompanied by the imposing snow-capped Salkantay makes this destination a unique tourist gem. Since Inca times, this lagoon was worshiped by the Andean communities. Likewise, it is considered the third most popular tourist attraction in Cusco, after Machu Picchu and the Mountain of Seven Colors.

The snowy Salkantay is part of the Vilcabamba mountain range and gives rise to the formation of this incredible lagoon, which is fed by the mountain glaciers. This lagoon is located in the province of Anta, and represents a perfect alternative for those travelers who wish to enjoy nature and the landscape at the foot of a snow-capped mountain.

Tour Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa - Humantay Lagoon

    Our Laguna Humantay Tour begins with the pick-up from your hotel in Cusco at approximately 4:30 in the morning. We will board in our tourist transport, to start our trip to Mollepata, the trip takes about 2 hours. In Mollepata we will taste a delicious and energizing breakfast.

    Then we will register and pay to enter the Salkantay route, then continue our journey to Laguna Humantay in our tourist transport, until we reach Soraypampa, the trip by transport will be more than an hour on a trail road. While we delight ourselves with panoramic views of beautiful landscapes of the snowy Salkantay and Nevado Humantay, as well as ravines that will be part of our route to the Humantay Lagoon.

    Once we arrive at Soraypampa we will prepare to start our trek towards the Laguna Huamantay, we will slowly ascend for approximately one hour, crossing incredible landscapes, mountains, ravines and with the protection of the Apu Salkantay, until we reach the Laguna Turquesa ”Humantay” which is located over 4300 meters above sea level, on the slopes of the snowy Humantay.

    We will have approximately 2 hours, depending on the time we take to explore the magical place, in addition to taking thousands of photographs in all positions and if possible, take a dip, while we receive the explanation of our experienced guide.

    At the end of the determined time to enjoy, we will begin our descent walk and our return trip to Mollepata. Place where we will have our delicious lunch at 2:00 p.m., then we will take the transport back to Cusco arriving around 5:00 p.m. We will leave you in a location near the Plaza de Armas of Cusco, thus ending our services.
